EUGENE AREA GLEANERS NEWS 6-14-2021
MASK POLICY: Please continue to wear masks when you visit drop sites, pick up donations, and participate in gleans.
GLEANS
As more gleans appear on the calendar, please participate as you are able. If you don’t want or need what is gleaned, you can donate it to the group.
Friday, June 19: Greens and more in Walterville (Organic Redneck)
Be sure to watch the Facebook group and email list for other gleans.
If you’re interested in being a glean leader, please contact Brandy Collier at [email protected].
NEW EUGENE DROP SITE!
The new River Road site (1235 River Road) officially opens today! It replaces Garfield as the main Eugene site! Park on Sandra Lane next to the fence posted with gleaner signs (don’t block the driveway).
Hours are 8 am to 8 pm. Please do not knock on the door as hosts may have Airbnb guests on occasion.
Here’s a great video introduction by Geraldine Sundstrom, drop site coordinator. She also demonstrates how the new sign-in/sign-out sheets work:

AT THE DROP SITES
IMPORTANT: Please continue to wear your mask while at a site and use the hand sanitizer provided.
UPDATED SIGNOUT SYSTEM. Each site has a new signout form labeled OUT (check at the top of the sheet). Just put a tally mark next to the appropriate category for each item you take (for example, loaf of bread, jug of milk, bunch of lettuce or carrots,etc.). Please make sure you are on the correct month. This will save on paper and allow for easier tracking!
Take only what you need, and only one sweet item per family. Please take only what has been posted as available on Facebook or the email list.
Check to make sure the refrigerator/freezer and the bread shed doors are closed securely.
Also please return grain jars and lids to the drop sites when empty so they can be refilled.
Sites are open for visits from dawn to dusk, unless noted below:
Springfield: 845 25th Place
Bread and grains, beans, and dry goods on the right side of the house. Park on the street.
Thurston (Springfield): 5972 Mt. Vernon
Open 9 am to 8 pm daily. It is at the end of a long shared driveway. Park on the street facing down hill or park on the left side of the driveway. Be careful not to block the neighbors. You can block the host. Check out this video introduction to the new site:

Springfield: 2445 Laralee St., 7 am to 9 pm

Bread and other items are on the back porch in the two cupboards and the refrigerator. There’s currently a variety of bread, rice, beans, stash tea, and items from the FFLC food boxes.
Delivered this past week:
From gleans: Organic greens, carrots, fava beans, and more
Sliced loaves, English muffins, and bagels thanks to regular donors Bread Stop, Orowheat, Winco, and Lox, Stocks, and Bagels.
Check the shelves for assorted grains and beans (thanks to Ly Le and Barbara DiJeannine for keeping the grain shelves stocked!).
Bottle Drop Blue Bags are available at the Springfield and Eugene drop sites: 2445 Laralee and 1242 Garfield. When you’ve filled it with returnable bottles and cans, bring it back to the drop site or deliver directly to a nearby Bottle Drop.
Thank you to the Drop Site Clean Team for keeping everything clean and organized!
PLANT APPRECIATION

Used canning lids and rings, both small and wide mouth, are needed for distribution of grains and dried foods. You can leave at the Garfield drop site, along with empty jars. Please hold off on dropping plastic containers for the grain project—there are currently plenty on hand.
Unused paper lunch bags and plastic bread bags are needed to package bagels for Lox, Stock, and Bagels. If you can help, please leave your package at 1242 Garfield and note that in the comments on this post:
