In all my years of gardening, I’ve never had radishes bolt before we ate them all. The unseasonably hot weather we had earlier in Spring cause almost all of my greens and radishes to bolt. I left the flowers for the pollinators… if this happens to you, all is not lost. These radish seed pods that resulted are quite tasty and I’ve been eating them with the peas during my morning garden visits and adding them to salads. They are mild and crunchy but as they mature they get spicy, more radishes flavored. I have a few that are starting to get tough so I imagine the seed inside is developed enough they are no longer palatable and I’m planning to leave those for as long as I can stand the unruliness of this bed…I may regret that next year when if I end up with radishes sprouting up everywhere with the lemon balm and calendula, but hey, free plants!
